The Tidewater Big Train Operators (TBTO) Club was founded in 1985. The organization’s continuous existence places it among one of the oldest garden railroad (also known as “G gauge” and “large scale”) clubs in the U.S. The Club membership consists of families from the greater Tidewater and Richmond, Virginia areas, as well as Northeast North Carolina. The Club meets monthly to share in the enjoyment of the large scale train hobby. Typical meetings include operating trains, sharing tips and information on model and garden railroading, and promoting fellowship among members. TBTO participates in a number of local activities and events designed to entertain and educate the public on various aspects of the hobby, we also travel to various parts of eastern Virginia. An annual Holiday Train Show, consisting of many layouts, is exhibited and free to the public. Operating a garden railroad is a fascination for all ages and a hobby the entire family can enjoy. For that reason, the TBTO membership continues to grow each year. So come join us, even if you do not own a layout. We promise to make your participation a rewarding experience!
